Computational Design
Prof. Bernd Bickel

The Chair of Computational Design focuses on developing advanced algorithmic methods that revolutionise the way we think and design in architecture and beyond. By seamlessly integrating numerical simulations into the design process, we enable: real-time previews of final constructions without their physical realisation; automatic optimisation of selected physical properties while respecting a desired aesthetic; and full integration with creative AI to facilitate natural exploration of the design space.
Our research is rooted in Computer Science, particularly in the fields of Computational Design and Visual Computing. We develop novel algorithms and practical solutions in areas such as interactive design, geometry processing, spatial computing and XR, creative AI, and computational fabrication.
